Layer 3 routing with multiple OpenFlow VLAN's

I have been researching SDN since about 5 months now and have also worked with the ODL controller.

I've been trying to set up multiple OpenFlow VLAN's with different subnets on an Alcatel OS6860E switch.

The first thing I noticed is that in comparison to a regular VLAN it is impossible to assign an IP address to an OpenFlow interface, is this normal?

My second question is if it's necessary to use the Subnet Gateway Configurations or Static Routes in the OpenDaylight web interface to set up connectivity between different subnets? For example 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.1.2.

Thanks for any answers!
