Plans for netconf devices support

Hi all,

Are there any plans to extend the Netconf device support to about the same level as how OpenDaylight supports OpenFlow devices? What I mean is that when a Netconf device is detected by ODL, it whould be possible to access/configure routing or forwarding capabilities of the device. I assume proper capabilities would have to be supported by the device; which ones, those standardized or drafted by the netmod IETF working group?

The netconf support works primarily as a pass-through function, so as long as the device supports schema download of YANG models, all management functionality should be available to you through the controller RESTCONF interface. This zero-touch capability is one of the key design requirements of MD-SAL.

We are currently lacking node auto-discovery -- currently you need to configure the nodes manually. Writing an auto-discovery plugin should not be hard, though.
