OpenDaylight on Apache Karaf is an effort to deploy key OpenDaylight projects onto the Apache Karaf OSGi container environment.

Some of the goals include making deployments easier to manage via Karaf's feature mechanism, improve integration testing via Pax Exam Karaf distribution support, and leverage Karaf's console interface. As Apache Karaf takes care of maintaining an OSGi ecosystem as a base OSGi environment, OpenDaylight projects are free to focus more upon their own needs. See for more details.

@jgoodyear: Does it mean that equinox and felix will not be used once we have apache karaf in place?

I think that Karaf is built on top of equinox and felix.

kanika28 and Colin Dixon, yes Karaf is yet another assembly of a bunch of OSGi bundles, but at the heart you need an OSGi runtime and that is provided either by Equinox or Felix or well could be also Knopflerfish or Prosyst, but those are less known OSGi runtimes and more specialized

@kanika28 - For future reference, post this kind of thing as a comment on an answer, not as an answer. The way you've done it is like a form, not a Q&A site.
