what doese the "hardware path" and "software path" actions mean when your are creating a flow in the ODL controller GUI??

I'm trying to wrap my head around the different kinds of actions that ODL offers. But theses two actions illudes me. What do they do?

HI , Could you please tell me how to push flow ? and how to get path between 2 hosts in ODL MD-SAL? I am using lithium integration . Give with sample example

They are converted into OF 1.0 output actions. Hardware path goes to OFPPNORMAL, software path goes to OFPPLOCAL.

Roughly, OFPPNORMAL means to process the packet as if this was a traditional (non-OF) switch, and OFPPLOCAL passes the packet to the local IP stack.
