Is there any particular reason you are favouring osgi over karaf ? Well to run on osgi, go into distribution folder rather then distribution-karaf.

I assume you are a newbie and having trouble in starting with OpenDaylight Helium.

Once you have extracted the binary distribution, go to the bin folder and execute ./karaf (or karaf.bat, if you are in windows). It will open the OSGi console, which is the console and run time of the Apache Karaf based OpenDaylight.
