Cannot display items on SFC UI after installing SFC distribution

Hello, I am new to OpenDaylight, and I am interested in experimenting with SFC and so I was following the building instructions on this page: https://wiki.opendaylight.org/view/ServiceFunctionChaining:Main

I cloned and built the SFC distribution as instructed, and according to the page it should show the UI page (under the Service Functions tab) with built-in items (Service Functions for example) populated. However it was showing blank for me, and when accessing the RESTConf api explorer ( http://localhost:8181/apidoc/explorer/index.html ) it returned me an HTTP 404 Error code. On the System Info tab it was also displaying a list of items with "Not Found (empty datastore or wrong RESTconf URL)" I presume that it's not connected to the datastore correctly, however I'm not sure what I was missing when I followed the instruction page. I'm currently just doing everything on one machine (Linux Guest machine on Virtualbox) at the moment.

If anyone has any ideas I really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

I think I figured out the problem. The cause was that I was using Java 8, and in turns out that ODL currently doesn't support it. (It throws me a NullPointerException when I type commands in the ODL terminal) Downgrading to Java 7 fixed this problem.
