Prerequisites The following are required for building the codebase.

  1. Maven 3.04 or greater.

Check your version (example output included):

[~]$ mvn -v Apache Maven 3.1.1 (NON-CANONICAL2013-11-0814-32mockbuild; 2013-11-08 09:32:41-0500) Maven home: /usr/share/maven Java version: 1.7.055, vendor: Oracle Corporation Java home: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-openjdk- Default locale: enUS, platform encoding: UTF-8 OS name: "linux", version: "3.13.10-200.fc20.x86_64", arch: "amd64", family: "unix"

  1. Java 1.7+, including the JDK.

  2. Clone the opendaylight controller code from git.

git clone

cd controller and build the controller by running mvn clean install -DskipTests

The process differs if you want an official release or the source itself, for development.

The Pulling, Hacking, and Pushing All the Code from the CLI wiki describes everything you'd need for getting started with a dev env.

To install an official release, simply install Java 1.7, download the tarball/zip and extract it.

Alternatively, there's a (very new) RPM, Docker image and Puppet mod you could use. I don't actually recommend this for new folks, as they are still under active development (I built them, FYI).
