So i've downloaded the opendaylight controller from gerrit (by doing this git clone ssh://<username>@git.opendaylight.org:29418/controller.git). This is the controller code from Hydrogen or Helium ?</username>

When i download from here ( http://www.opendaylight.org/software/downloads/helium ) i can't find anywhere the source code ? Is it supposed ? Can anyone ask me why and what does karaf do ?

Thanks in advance Nuno

The various releases have their own branches and tags.

[~/controller]$ git branch -a
<snip>
* master
  remotes/origin/HEAD -> origin/master
  remotes/origin/stable/helium
  remotes/origin/stable/hydrogen
[~/controller]$ git tag --list
<snip>
release/helium
release/helium-sr1

To access the latest Helium source, checkout the Helium branch with git checkout -b origin/stable/helium. Similarly, for Hydrogen you'd use git checkout -b origin/stable/hydrogen. The latest code, which will eventually become Lithium, is on origin/master. The tags show the state of the code when we cut a release artifact, like Helium (0.2.0) and Helium SR1 (0.2.1). To check out the source as it was when we cut a release, use git checkout -b sr1 release/helium-sr1 (or similar, for a different tag).

The downloads page allows you to pull pre-built releases, which is ideal for standing up ODL but not for hacking on the code.

Karaf allows you to choose which ODL features you'd like to install. Think of it as "roll your own ODL". This contrasts with our attempts in Hydrogen to predict use cases and pre-cut Base, Virtualization and Service Provider editions.
