If i want to make use of Rest API of MD-SAL, do i need to incorporate a module in the controller or it can be just exterior to it giving "orders" to the controller via Rest API ?

So i want to make a module that adds, modifies or removes flows from the controller and therefore from the switches in an asynchronous way. I'm thinking about using the MD-SAL API that can make use of FlowProgrammerNorthbound accessible via REST API in order to do that.

Do i need to create a module incorporated in the controller or it can be an exterior module/program that sends REST requests to the controller and his able to install, modify or remove flows ?

Thanks in advance. Nuno

Controller already has a module to respond to REST requests. You can use external program and talk to controller using REST api. You can use the following REST api references for Helium and Hydrogen: Helium: https://wiki.opendaylight.org/view/OpenDaylightController:RESTCONFNorthbound APIs Hydrogen: https://wiki.opendaylight.org/view/OpenDaylightController:RESTReferenceand_Authentication
