I want to rename my switch which has the name openflow:(followed by some number) to something else.

Can anyone tell me how to do it using the rest api?

i don't think it is possible to rename a node (it is unique identity through which controller is able to identify/establish a connection to switch)

You can disconnect the switch and then change id and then connect to the controller with a different id

I am new to sdn and odl (still learning).

actually all i had to do for resolving my problem was to change the datapath-id of the bridge in ovs, the command i used is

ovs-vsctl set bridge < bridge_name > other-config:datapath-id=< datapathid >

and set the datapathid to say "0000000000000001" (16 digits hex) the the node name becomes openflow:1 this is what i wanted

thanks @saisujithreddy
